Synonyms – Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly.
This Movie starts and I was 8 years old again. The feel, cinematography, sound and lighting was flawless. The visual effects on the Dinosaurs…. Well its as good as maybe Lost World. They did a great job at the new dinosaur and the returning T-Rex from Jurassic Park, Yes I said the T-Rex is the same from the First movie which isn’t a spoiler because The director Colin Trevorrow had already confirmed this …
I mean, we took the original design and obviously, technology has changed. So, it’s going to move a little bit differently, but it’ll move differently because it’s older. And we’re giving her some scars and we’re tightening her skin. So, she has that feeling of, like, an older Burt Lancaster. And this movie is her Unforgiven.
director Colin Trevorrow confirmed the Jurassic World will be a direct sequel to Jurassic Park. He also said…
We got to build everyone from the ground up because technology has changed so much that everything is a rebuild. And I got to bring in dinosaurs that I’ve always thought deserved a big scene. There’s an Ankylosaurus in this movie; was a really big scene and that’s just a bad ass dinosaur. And there are others. There’s smaller appearances, some bigger appearances. You know, we have an underwater reptile. I’m sure you’ve heard about that. That thing is pretty cool. We have a new kind of flying dinosaur that no one’s ever seen before, you know, in addition to the Pteranodons that are really scary. And I didn’t want to just throw the kitchen sink at it. Each of these movies has done a good job at just very carefully, in a measured way, increasing the new dinosaurs that you see. But, there’s a lot of dinosaurs in the movie for sure.
But what stole the WHOLE movie for me was Chris Pratt as Owen and his relationship with the Velociraptors. I felt going in that a man controlling these monster was going to feel forced. They were able to show how dangerous they are with how loyal they could be. In the trailer Owen pointed out that he doesn’t control the Raptors, Its a relationship and they go more in to that in the movie but I want to keep this review spoiler free.
The only complaint I had was casting. Bryce Howard as Claire felt like she phone’d it in, Vincent D’Onofrio as Hoskins felt like he forgot what movie he was in, Irrfan Khan as Simon felt forced, while at the same time, I think of all the roles I’ve seen him in this was the best He really did try to step out side the box he alway finds himself in, and the worse of all…. Lauren Lapkus as Vivian, by far the worst casting in the whole movie. I mean who owed this girl a favor to get her in this movie??? Lauren Lapkus is best know for her role in Orange Is the New Black, and she should stay there.
The writing on the film is great the writer Rick Jaffa who also wrote Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Rise of the Planet of the Apes did a great job. The dialogue did not feel falt and was full of nodes to the first film.
