Greetings and Salutations Once Again Audience,
With the recent news that Hannibal was going to be canceled I thought I’d take a look at this project that at first glance I wasn’t really into. I Love Hannibal movies! Hannibal not withstanding but the other 3 were good. So for me before this news of the show being canceled just for me Mads Mikkelsen while he is a great actor he is NOT my Hannibal Lecter.
Going into watching the first season of Hannibal, the first thought on my mind was from whose point of view will they stick to? Like in the movies were the movie really follows that of the FBI or like in the lesser in quality movie Hannibal Rising where it was kind of from Hannibal point of view. I loved the movie so I was hoping they’d tell the story from the FBI’s point of view and they do, Kind of. Let me explain, Season one follows Will Graham played by a talented actor “Hugh Dancy”.
Will Graham, a teacher at the FBI Academy and FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers. This show explores the early relationship between the renowned psychiatrist and Will Graham as Will Spins out of control try to catch a Copy Cat killer.
Season one starts off kind of slow and I wasn’t really hooked in until maybe Episode 3 or 4, But They got me I was locked in. They used Hannibal perfectly and you really be leave in Will Graham most of the time. They were able to find the right balance between these two Minds.
The casting in the show was maybe my only real complaint. Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford was great because I LOVE Laurence Fishburne, but he was a little distracting. Half the time I wasn’t sure is I was watching Man of Steel or the Matrix. The casting I hated was besides disappointing casting in Hannibal Lecter, Caroline Dhavernas as Dr. Alana Bloom “Lame!” she was so flat in the show and I felt they only throw her character in so Will had someone to have a sexual chemistry with. Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams and Hettienne Park are all throw away characters. Gillian Anderson best known for her role in the Xfiles was nothing more than an afterthought.
Over all the Season one was VERY good. I would give it just barely 7 out of 10. Give me your thoughts in the comments below and then share this with your friends and become part of the conversation.
