Kubo and the Two Strings Review

Greeting and Salutations once again audience! Kubo-and-the-Two-Strings-The-Far-Lands

Over the weekend I went into this film only by chance. I was on a date with a very beautiful woman and the movie we went to see was sold out. So we choise to see this film and even then we thought it was another movie. So we went in totally blind. While Art Parkinson did a great job as the lead Kubo, Matthew McConaughey as beetle stole the movie, Matthew was funny and just alittle odd which feed the film just what it needed. While Kubo had many talented people in this film those are the only ones worth noting.

This was Directed by Travis Knight whos produced  others like The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman & Coraline but this is the first full length film for this director. The story felt unfinished, and the third act felt rushed. It had so much lead up and very little pay off.  I felt like the one of the reveals happened to early and it was distracting from the main plot.

The visuals were really good if the film had been made 10 years ago.  With movies like the “Book of Life” taking animation forward this movie felt like another movie by the numbers. Now dont get me wrong with all that said. Kubo is very family friendly and I think most kids will really like it. The plot is easy to follow so no surprise that it has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and im  sure it’ll produce some great toys.

Ok, in conclusion I did like this film I give it a 5 out of 10. I would like to see a part 2, only cause I think they could come up with something really special but with a budget of $60 million and an Opening Weekend of only $12 million its got a way to go before we start that conversation. Well ok guys as always tell me what you thought on the movie in the comments or on twitter @FenixArising and be part of the conversation. Until next time…
